The Red Rooster House is located in Bethel, Vermont, a quintessential New England town. Right off exit 3 on route 89, Bethel is an easy 2 1/2 hour drive from Boston or 4 1/2 hours from New York City.  Once in Bethel, there is easy access to the Green Mountains and all Vermont has to offer.

The White River runs through Bethel and offers plenty of recreation options in the summer, including swimming, boating, tubing, and fishing. Silver Lake State Park is only 5 minutes away and has a beach area with snack bar, playground and boat rentals. For a cool dip on a hot summer afternoon, walk to the swimming hole at Locust Creek.

Woodstock, touted as one of the "prettiest small towns" in America is a 20 minute drive down scenic route 12. This lovely town offers restaurants (from casual to upscale), shopping and entertainment.  Be sure to visit Quechee, which features the Vermont Nature Center and Raptor Center. 

Hot air ballooning, hiking, golf and riding the Vermont trains are also fun activities not to be missed.

In the winter, downhill skiing is a favorite at Killington/Pico only 30 minutes away. For a family-friendly ski area try Suicide Six in Woodstock (don't let the name mislead you). Nordic Skiing is close by in Woodstock or Randolph and the VAST snowmobile trail system runs right through Bethel.
